Alternet.org has an excellent article of the sentiments of some of the Israeli supporter of the bombing of Gaza. The title of my diary is the chorus to a song the people at the rally are singing.
A couple of things struck me about this video.
Follow me under the fold for more.
- There were over 10,000 people there, but I didn't hear about it from CNN, Slate, WSJ, the HuffingtonPost, or any other source. Maybe they were there and I missed it: but it's a little crazy that this could happen in my country, and in my city.
- This happened just yesterday. Wow.
- There are over 900 people confirmed killed in Gaza, with over 300 children. This doesn't count the women, elderly, or the innocent men.
- Over 1/2 of Gaza's population is under 17 years old.
- Gaza is the world's largest open air prison, and Israel is bombing the people inside who literally have no where to go.
- Israel is claims to be sending text messages to people telling them to get to safety, but is bombing schools, hospitals, and homes. Where, exactly, are they supposed to go?
- I know this is sad. And I know people would rather just not hear it. I'd rather just not hear it too. But I don't think we get that luxury. I don't think we get to avoid uncomfortable and inconvenient truths. I just don't.
As I watch this video, I'm reminded of another.
And the words of Yogi Berra come to me:
There are some people who, if they don't already know, you can't tell 'em
