This moment, more than any before, represents a new beginning for our nation. The exclusive nature of our Presidency is now shattered, and from this point forward, the door is left open to a wider horizon of possibilities for our nation's future. Beyond this threshold lie our greatest hopes.
As we come to this point in history, we must resolve not to just leave behind our failures, our disappointments, and our losses. We must continue the momentum to move ahead, toward an expanded diversity within all of our highest and our humblest institutions, a diversity of our own people with which we are blessed.
As we look to a power higher than any one of us for inspiration at this moment, let us ask for the wisdom which can lead us not to just negotiate problems perceived to lie within our path, but to create a future built on the greatest hopes of our imaginations.
If we seek the wisdom of a higher power to clarify the definition of anything, above all it must be of that which is a person, and that each person must be defined the same, with the same rights and privileges as any other, with no exception, with no exclusion. If we are to be guided by that wisdom, may we collectively realize that the higher power from which we seek council is found within us, the people, and our differences constitute the diversity of that collective wisdom.
Let us reject the false powers which steal our heritage and our personhood for their own gain, tempt us with selfishness to use our differences to exclude and separate, spread lies to cultivate fear of our neighbors and erode the faith we must have in our ability to determine our common destiny, when our true strength lies in the power within each of us to join together and act as an inclusive community.
Let us celebrate that strength of diversity, and place our confidence and trust in that higher power, the collective strength and wisdom of we, the people.
And as this moment passes into history, may we all be joined in the realization that, "We are the ones we have been waiting for."
