The VA gets a bad rap on occasion. It is sometimes deserved and sometimes not. Already today, things were different at the local VA clinic.
My wife took our son to his speech therapy appointment at the local VA clinic. (He was shot in the head in Mosul, Iraq and has aphasia, among other problems.) When they arrived, they saw the clinic staff watching the inauguration ceremonies. My wife and son watched as well for a few minutes and when it seemed like a good time to ask she said to them, "Hey, where's your Presidential photo?"
The staff, as one, pointed to a bare hook on the wall. "We can't wait until it gets here," said one of them.
The impression she had was that they were ready to get to work without the restrictions placed on them by the Bush Administration. Many VA employees are vets themselves who want to help their fellow vets. Vets know what leadership looks like and now they're about to see it again.
