More GOP games. Tra la.
Apparently, an unnamed GOP Senator has placed a "hold" on the nomination of Lisa Jackson. WSJ - Hold Placed on Jackson
A spokesman for Sen. John Barrasso (R., Wyoming) said the senator has asked that Jackson’s name be taken off of a list of cabinet nominees pegged for expedited consideration by the chamber. The spokesman said Barrasso’s main concern is not so much with Jackson, but rather that she will effectively report to an unelected, unconfirmed energy czar, Carol Browner, whom Obama has chosen as his special assistant for energy and climate policy. The spokesman added that Barrasso doesn’t oppose a roll call vote on Jackson’s nomination, but says the senator only got written answers to his questions on Tuesday and the hearing transcripts today.
At issue, as well, is California's attempt to get EPA to reconsider EPA's horrific action that prevented stronger emission control regulations in California. (EPA protect the environment? Bwaahahaha...silly human!).
On Wednesday, the state of California formally asked Jackson’s agency to revisit the decision by the previous EPA administrator, Stephen Johnson, that denied the state permission to implement controls on greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles. Should the EPA grant the waiver, California and 13 other states would be allowed to implement a program to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from autos 30% by 2016. The auto industry –- which is contending with a huge sales slump — has strongly opposed such rules, saying they are tantamount to regulating fuel economy, traditionally a federal responsibility.
Sorry for the quick diary. If this is a repeat, I will be happy to delete. Just thought that Kossistan should be made aware that the GOP is not just playing with Holder - preventing swift action at DOJ. Now, they are playing patty cake with the environment as well.
