This opinion piece from today's SF Chronicle is a great example of the cruelty and shortsightedness of the Repunks neo-con philosophy. In brief, Schwarzenegger wants to cut off funding for home care assistance in Cali. That's cruel and shortsighted.
And as if we needed proof of their opposition to both critical thinking and good public policy planning:
Schwarzenegger has repeatedly singled out a 50-year-old home care program for low-income residents as a candidate for the chopping block.
Now, in addition to throwing more people out of work - these folk actually do things that are important and meaningful, which I guess is why Gov. Arnie has a hard-on to dump them.
The worst thing about this is that, in addition putting good folk out of work, it will hurt the living situations of vulnerable Californians, and cost us all more money in the long run. Really bad public policy. If anything, this is exactly the type of program that the stimulus plan should fund - and probably expand to all 50 states. It's a great example of a forward thinking home health care option.
I guess that's why the repunks want to shut it down. That'll leave them more money for the freaking bankers!
