It is not often that i post diaries here, especially on this subject matter as i'm no expert on the gay community. I however thought i would bring this to the attention of the superb activists that frequent this site.
Here are the basics of the story -
A California appeals court ruled Monday that a Christian high school can expel students perceived to be lesbians, upholding a 2008 lower court ruling that there were "no triable" elements to the case.
The two 16-year-old girls sued the school for expelling them on the basis of a "bond of intimacy" "characteristic of a lesbian relationship," under a California discrimination law.
Two girls sued claiming they were discriminated against after they were expelled from the Wildomar school in 2005. A lower court said the school isn't bound by the same anti-discrimination laws as a business establishment.
John McKay, attorney for California Lutheran, says the school's goal is to educate based on Christian principles.
While the court called its own decision "narrow," lawyers on both sides of the case said it would likely shield and PROTECT PRIVATE SCHOOLS-- beyond simply the Christian school in the lawsuit -- from anti-discrimination suits.
I just wanted to bring this the attention to the Kos community. Apologies if any of the language causes offence. My hope is that some here will make some noise about this terrible legal decision
