Kit Bond has been bragging about how he received "assurances" from Eric Holder that Holder would not prosecute Bush administration officials for any war crimes they may have committed. The question is, did Kit Bond commit a Blago-type crime by illegally offering to swap his vote for a no-prosecution pledge?
As the Washington Times reported,
"But after meeting with Mr. Holder twice over the past week and having received assurances that he was not intent on pursuing intelligence officials who acted in good faith with proper authorization in the conduct of interrogations, Mr. Bond decided to support the nominee, the aide added."
This might be a crime along the exact same lines that Rod Blagojevich committed. Under Title 18, Sec. 666, it is a crime if any government agent "corruptly solicits or demands for the benefit of any person, or accepts or agrees to accept, anything of value from any person, intending to be influenced or rewarded in connection with any business, transaction, or series of transactions of such organization, government, or agency involving any thing of value of $5,000 or more."
Maximum jail time is 10 years.
Lest one think my query is far-fetched, no less a legal expert than Senator Pat Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, has raised the same question:

Should Kit Bond be rousted out of bed and arrested, like Blago was?
