Recently Paul Hsieh published a story that has been picked up by numerous websites, warning us of the dangers of universal healthcare.
http://www.csmonitor.com/...
Allow me to sum it up: Universal healthcare is dangerous and against what we as Americans believe in. If you love freedom, then you really won't like Universal Healthcare. Japan sucks.
Ok, maybe that isn't exactly the entire point of his article, but I'll get into some of his points below:
First of all, that article was funny. So thanks for that Paul.
Imagine a country where the government regularly check the waistlines of citizens over age 40.
How about this: Imagine a country where Doctors regularly check the health of citizens over age 40.
(Point of information, most doctors and hospitals in Japan are privately owned and operated.)
Anyone deemed too fat would be required to undergo diet counseling. Those who fail to lose sufficient weight could face further "reeducation" and their communities subject to stiff fines.
The fines would go against the persons employer, not their "communities", exactly the same way insurance companies charge more for insurance for a company if the employees smoke, drink, are overweight, have had cancer etc.
Hence, Americans should beware that if we adopt universal healthcare, we also risk creating a "nanny state on steroids" antithetical to core American principles.
Oh do tell! Republicans would never push for a Nanny State would they? PS There is 0% chance that emails I send today are NOT going to be read by a program run by the CIA or NSA. Nanny State you say? Noooo.
For example, the British government has banned some television ads for eggs on the grounds that they were promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. This is a blatant infringement of egg sellers' rights to advertise their products.
How DARE THEY!!! We would never do that. BTW, I can’t remember... when was the last time you saw a TV ad for cigarettes? Or heard one on the radio?? I can’t recall... but I’m sure it isn’t because we passed a law against it right? I mean, that would be "a blatant infringement of the tobacco sellers rights to advertise their products"!!
Government attempts to regulate individual lifestyles are based on the claim that they must limit medical costs that would otherwise be a burden on "society." But this issue can arise only in "universal healthcare" systems where taxpayers must pay for everyone's medical expenses.
Or if you get your health insurnace from a group plan...... like everyone does. Ooops.
The American Founding Fathers who fought and died for our freedoms would be appalled to know their descendants were allowing the government to dictate what they could eat and drink.
Did I miss the part in this article where he shows where people can’t choose what they eat or drink under universal healthcare? I didn’t? He just made this up? Oh ok. I thought maybe I missed something. HAHAHAHHA.
PS I want a nickel every time a winger uses the phrase "fought and died for our freedoms" for something totally stupid, like tobacco sellers right to advertise on television.
