Good evening, everyone. I don't go on Politico much anymore as they tend to have yellow lettering or sensationalist headlines. Well, I decided to stop by last night and I checked out their Scorecard blog where they list the latest news in elections. At the end of most days, they do "Remainders", which is a list of remaining small news tidbits for the day each summarized in one sentence. I decided to do a diary on their last Scorecard Run-down (which was posted on Friday, October 2) because it contains some news regarding New Jersey's gubernatorial election as well as some news that mentions our site!
More below the fold.

Remainders: Christie's tough debate
AP declares Christie the loser at last night’s debate.
Christie’s reality check from the right.
McDonnell outspending Deeds 2-to-one on TV.
McDonnell accused of mixing work, politics.
Grayson apologizes to the ADL.
Kos rooting for Scozzafava.
Shea-Porter, debunked.
Hanabusa enters open seat race in Hawaii One-O.
Greg Ball gets slapped with FEC complaint.
And an accused terrorist was NRCC, NRSC donor.
First off, I missed New Jersey's gubernatorial debate last week on PBS, but from what I've read on it, Corzine and Daggett basically tore apart Chris Christie. They poked holes in his campaign by revealing how little substance Christie's campaign platform had. This became most visible when Christie could not explain to the other two how he plans to cut taxes AND balance the budget (which Corzine did this year fairly well).
I think Corzine WILL win this, especially after Christie's "macaca moment" where he said that a women in her 20's with breast cancer should not be covered by medicaid because she's an "anomaly."
There's this excellent comment under that Remainders article that sums up my thoughts on the NJ gubernatorial election very well:
I feel New Jersey's pain with the economy, and I love the state. It is natural for constituents to blame elected officials for ills, but there is no blame specific here. Jon Corzine has made some tough decisions for his state with his state as top priority. He did not bring on the poor economy, but he is fighting tooth and nail for his state. Corzine is the right person for governor. Any governor who loves his state...especially the states being hit hard...and makes good decisions for all its residents, deserves to be re-elected. Corzine doesn't need the money or the power, he wants to do right by New Jersey. Go for it Jon! Good luck on the best person, New Jersey. You've had a rough time; it will get better with Mr. Corzine...guaranteed.
Moving on to the other thing I wish to comment on, I feel quite flattered that Politico stated that we generally prefer Republican DeDe Scozzafava over Democrat Bill Owens in the NY-23 race. The conservatives in the district are going to reel at knowing this and will put more stock into the conservative independent than back a Republican who is pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. It seems like progressives can't lose in NY-23. DeDe is ahead in the polls, but the presence of a conservative independent will most likely split the Republican vote. There are two possible outcomes to this election: either Bill Owens takes advantage of the split Republican vote and wins (Woodrow Wilson style) or DeDe will win and NY-23 is represented with a liberal Republican.
Please feel free to comment on my commentary or any of the stories linked in the Politico Scorecard article above.
