Last night, I saw Michael Moore's new movie(rather good and quite depressing) and it really got me thinking about how true Love of God/religion specifically diminishes and dismisses capitalism, for a variety of obvious reasons. Of course, that's because our current corporate interests suck total shit and absolutely do not help the least among us. This kind of bullshit would have Jesus rolling over in his heavenly grave.
And that is why I like Jesus. I love Jesus. I heart him. He's not my particular savior (because I think that he was more of a teacher than anything else), but I do believe that he existed and that he was dope. Other than that, I know nada.
Except for this:
ROME – Scientists have reproduced the Shroud of Turin — revered as the cloth that covered Jesus in the tomb — and say the experiment proves the relic was man-made, a group of Italian debunkers claimed Monday.
The shroud bears the figure of a crucified man, complete with blood seeping out of nailed hands and feet, and believers say Christ's image was recorded on the linen fibers at the time of his resurrection.
I guess, overall, I just don't really get it. Why would you lie about a piece of cloth that didn't actually cover up Jesus in his tomb? Just to prove that, ya know, Christ existed and stuff? That's ridiculous because, and maybe you freak-a-zoid Republicans don't understand this, but this kinda shit makes us normal people curious about your IQs. If Jesus was never covered in a cloth or somesuch, then how about just admitting that? No harm, no foul, my little scissors' legs.
Jesus Christ stood for something, truly. I really believe that. I think he was an extremely troubled and complex man, as outlined in the completely fictional tale, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, a funny, heart-warming, bittersweet, and intimate book written by Christopher Moore.
The shroud is first recorded in history around 1360 in the hands of a French knight — a late appearance that is one of the reasons why some scientists are skeptical of its authenticity.
Measuring 13 feet (4 meters) long and three feet (one meter) wide, it has suffered severe damage during the centuries, including from fires.
Owned by the Vatican, it is kept locked in a special protective chamber in Turin's cathedral and is rarely shown. The last public display was in 2000, when more than 1 million people turned up to see it, and the next is scheduled for 2010.
Seriously, this is my question for all Christians: why do you care so much? It's not as if we think Jesus was a total selfish assholic bastard (Mark Sanford-ish) who deserved to die on the cross. But we don't necessarily need evidence of his existence. What we DO need, however, is proof of you following in his footsteps, as opposed to following in Hitler's.
Racism can only get you so far. Adolf Hitler found that out slowly, but surely.
Please explain to me how Jesus H. Christ would have been advocating for the death of others. Please explain to me how Christ would have been your servant, and not the other way around. Please explain to me how you realize that "justification" and "rationalization" and "excuses" and "projecting" and "hatred" are Christian qualities.
Do you truly believe that?
Because I don't. I've seen many wonderful, awesome Christians rise up, stand for what they believe in, protect the feeble, and sit right back down. They don't want kudos or thanks or praise or charity.
What they want is justice. They want fairness. They want equality.
I can appreciate and relate to that. Those Christians are my friends. We'd go out and party 'til it's 1999, if Prince would let us.
But the ones who capitalize on others' misfortunes? The vultures who kick people out of their homes? The ones who go to church on Sundays and lie through their teeth?
Those fuckers aren't Christians. They're Lucifer. Fuck right the fuck off.
