I have a real problem, which is that both of my grown daughters want my truly disgusting, stained and spotty recipe cards.
Copies are not an option. They both want the originals (fron which they learned to cook)---all are written in either my hand, my mother's hand or my grandmother's hand. Somehow, the stains and spots seem to be the most important thing, no matter who wrote the recipe card.
Most of your are probably laughing and thinking this is a silly topic for Daily Kos. But in my daughters' minds, not having the "original" is sort of like having a copy of the Constitution instead of the original.
So, in many ways, this is also about things we all treasure, like Democracy and equality.
I would welcome any solution to this not-so-trivial problem. But I think that we are dealing with that most precious of things, happy memories. I mean, they even argue about "who's spot" is on a given card.
And---I would like to take this whole thing another step, into the realm of what's important and what isn't. I have a hunch that many of you have some thoughts on that....
