One of my secret joys is reading the occasional mail I get from right wing organizations.
You see, I am a doctor and a small business owner, so they assume I must share their values.
For this reason, I assume, they love to solicit me with entertaining mailings.
The latest came over the signature of U.S. Senator David Vitter (remember him? He's one of the "D.C. madame's" special friends).
Together with his other friends at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Fund(does this guy have a taste for prostitution, or what?!) he sent me a letter urging my support for the work they do. As they outline in their website, this organization, largely funded by right wing foundations and corporate behemoths, survives in order to convince us that "No force is inflicting more damage on our economy, citizenry, and cherished democracy than the union bosses."
......not the threat of terrorism, not the consolidation of corporate power, not the rise of Chinese industrial supremacy, not the stagnation of wages, not the insidious rise in health care costs.....
In any event, here is my fun game:
I love getting postage paid return envelopes and love editing the sweet letters I get from the likes of David Vitter to tell them what I really think. So here is my revision, bold is my addition; strikethrough indicates deletions. Italics and CAPITALS belong to the original text:
Not so Dear Senator Vitter,
I don't share your fear for our liberty and economy now that we face the most pro-labor forced unionism President and Congress (Thank G-d!) in at least a generation.
I also do not agree that we need to pressure President Obama NOT to advocate destructive useful policies such as the "Card Check" scheme that subject workers to union intimidation and retaliation if they fail to join a union. Handing union bosses which grants working people even more power during an economic crisis is a prescription for disaster
Last but not least, I feel agree that we need to put the new power into the hands of the people once again. brokers in Washington on notice that they will not have a free hand to simply impose their We need a radical new agenda on for the American people.
Therefore- you can't count on me. Particularly because my gift today will be matched by a generous secret corporate donor.
But the most fun I keep for last, sending back the note in their "funny" business reply mail envelope. I won't give them a dime, but I'm happy to use their nickle to give them a piece of my mind!
