The Republicans have given up their resolution to scold Rep Alan Greyson (D-FL) for saying that their health care (non)plan calls for Americans to "die quickly". That's too bad.
It's too bad because the Democratic leadership missed a wonderful tactical opportunity. They should themselves introduce the bill and start moving it forward. Nothing could possibly be so clearly bipartisan as Democrats moving quickly on a Republican idea to scold a Democrat. And we know that everyone -- the blab-ocracy and the part of America that gets polled, anyway -- loves bipartisanship.
Then when the resolution hits the floor, it's go time! Democrats propose amendments, one by one, to add on each Republican house member who accused the Democrats of plans to kill off people. You remember them, right? We've been hearing for months about death panels, strict rationing, and Palin's daughter Trig being judged unworthy to live.
Then, when all have been added, the Democrats pass it.
That would be one Democrat to a dozen or so Republicans. [Somebody must have put together a definitive collection of these Republican lies that took place in the House, but I can't find it; here is one good list.]
Political theater? Of course. But good political theater. True political theater. Nightly news fodder political theater.
And there a bonus! Then we can send Grayson on TV to refuse to apologize some more. He does that really well. And we need more of that kind of thing.
Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic leadership missed a gift. Hope they snag the next one that comes by.
