There's been a question floating around since AHIP released the deceptive report from PWC about the Baucus bill: would the fact that AHIP hated it make liberals like it? Ezra was one of the first, saying
the report might have another impact, too: The evident anger and fear of the insurance industry might do a bit to reassure liberals that this plan is worth supporting, after all.
That would be a "no":
WASHINGTON - About 30 unions will run a full-page ad in newspapers Wednesday announcing their opposition to the Senate Finance Committee's health overhaul bill, a top labor lobbyist said.
The ad will state that unions will oppose the measure on the Senate floor unless improvements are made, according to Chuck Loveless, legislative director of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
The ad will state, "Real health care reform and nothing less," Loveless said.
If anything, the AHIP attacks on the Baucus bill, and their threat to continue to astronomically raise premiums, has solidified support for a better reform bill that does more to cut costs and improve coverage for all Americans, and one that includes a public option.
