Thank you and have an IVH night.
Here begins the lesson for tonight, my fellow IVHers, about a subject near and dear to our hearts: sex.
From Wikipedia:
Cougar—a woman over 40 who sexually pursues younger men, typically more than eight years her junior. The term appears to have been coined by Canadian website Cougardate.com and has been used in TV series, advertising and film. The 2007 film Cougar Club was dedicated to the subject and in Spring 2009 TV Land aired a reality show called The Cougar. A new show called Cougar Town, explores the difficulty and stigma of many so-called "Cougars".
Now, for those of you who have not been hidden under a geological formation for the last few decades, this word and concept will not come as a surprise. But, did you know there's more—oh, so much more—in terms of other detail on this subject?
For instance:
- The young man in a relationship with a Cougar is known as a Cub?
- According to Certain Sources Who Claim to Know™, the proper age relationship between a Cougar and her Cub is that he should be half her age plus seven years—if she is 44, he should be (44/2) + 7 = 29?
- A woman who is under 40 but at least 30, but otherwise follows the age relationship rules, is called a Puma?
Who knew the taxonomy of such relationships was so complicated—or so richly detailed?
I only have a few questions (at the moment):
- Why did I not know about this until now, and what did I miss when I was younger?
- What about the situation in which gender relationship is reversed? Is there a word for the older male—other than the obvious one of "dirty old man"?
- If we continue down in the age range, what would a 28-year-old woman dating a 21 year old man be called? A Mountain Lion?
I leave it to you, dear IVHers, to come up with appropriate—and, if it please the FSM, funny—answers to these and other relevant questions.
The floor is yours.
