So I am at the local Friday night lights game, as my son at 17 plays on the team (and we won in the last 90 seconds 49 to 42 thank you very much for asking), and I am talking at half time to a friend. A died in the wool Republican friend. For generations. But he has had health issues.
His words, not mine, "I've had a whole new attitude about health care".
You see, he had a heart attack and surgery 10 years ago. A little over a year ago, his wife was diagnosed with cancer. He has always carried health insurance for his family, and used VA for himself. But being self employed, premiums are out of sight, and he discovered that his policy pays 80% of the costs, when it pays. To get life saving treatments for his wife's cancer, he went to the governer, representative and senator, and without pressure from them, she might have died. His words, not mine "Why can't we have health care for everyone?" Says I, "Hope we get a decent health care bill." Says he, "So do I". Says I, "Medicare for everyone sounds good to me". Says he, "That's a good idea". Died in the wool Republican.
Dear Senator Reid: When died in the wool Republicans are clamoring for socialized medicine, the public option is the bare minimum. Why not try for something better, such as Medicare for everyone, and fall back on the lesser option if that fails?
Just wondering.
