This isn't my normal diary full of links and facts. It's a gut reaction. Tonight I feel insulted and humiliated--and the more I think about it, the worse it gets. Please take the time to see an issue from my perspective.
Bought a new Chrysler last year--and that's the good news. 32 miles per gallon, classy and American-made. Got a year of Sirius radio, so I cancelled my XM subscription.
Satellite radio is a must for those of us who for business reasons need to spend time in Limbaugh land, the vast areas of the country that have nothing but right wing radio and "God" channels to drive by. Then I found the difference.
"Left" radio--the channel they presume is "progressive"--is absolutely disgusting. Bennett in the morning is obscene and ignorant. Thom Hartmann gets cut off after an hour, and is pre-empted by Lynn Samuels, a racist ignoramus who moonlights as the call screener for a racist, rightwing nutcase.
Now I'm not opposed to having a satellite radio station offer hard core porn (listen to Bennett's show repeated Saturday morning) for those who punch that channel. There is a first amendment, and adults should be able to hook themselves to the satellite channel of their choice. I'm not even opposed to giving racists their own channel.
But what I'm opposed to, insulted by, and motivated to diary about is the inherent assumption by the owners of Sirius that "progressives" are also porn fans, racists or just ignorant. The very programming of the "Left" channel in Sirius is a statement of what their management thinks Progressives are.
So I call Sirius. After all, they are merged (tentatively) with XM. Can I change my car's radio to XM? No. I'm stuck with Sirius. The alternative hardware won't even fit.
The very labelling of Sirius' channel as "Left" is an insult to progressives everywhere. What can we do about it?
