No matter who you are, where you are from, who you screw, or which version of the Bible your church makes you read, CIVIL RIGHTS are CIVIL RIGHTS.
Can we all agree to that? No? Obviously not, because in the not-so-great state of Maine, over 220,000 bigots came out yesterday to tell the gays in the state that they are NOT entitled to the same CIVIL protections that heterosexual couples are.
Marriage, no matter how hard those NOM (National Organization "for" Marriage) folks or the preachers in your churches or the priests in the diocese try to say otherwise, is a CIVIL protection provided by the State!!!!!! It is possibly "anointed" by your "Lord" in a "church", but not always. For the most part, it is a legal document that offers civil rights/protections to couples who choose to share their lives or start families. It works for some, not at all for others, but should be made available to ALL!
Gay marriage, let's face it again, is inevitable, as four states have already conceded. And no matter how hard you fight, eventually it will win out. Maybe you will fight tooth and nail, thinking you are carrying the cross and hiding behind your mask of morality; however, you KNOW (and "you" KNOW who "you" are) that you are WRONG! You know you are a bigot and you know that your internal struggle is tearing you up inside. Just wait until your son or daughter (or grandson or granddaughter) is gay but cannot enjoy the same privileges of marriage in your state due to the hard work you did in the name of "traditional marriage".
I feel sorry for Maine. I feel sorry for the over 50% of registered voters who stayed home yesterday and now must live under the tyranny of a 52% majority.
I guess I will have to look to Washington State where the Referendum to offer "everthing but" equal rights to "domestic partners" seems to be winning. Wow!!! Seperate but Equal never looked so good! Arghhh!
