Here on DK and elsewhere in the liberal blogosphere, there are a number of people using the words betrayal, sell out, do nothing, jimmy carter to describe President Obama. Even though none of the major problems were going to be solved in 1 year, seems many progressives believed they would.
If their pet issues aren't fixed yet, then he isn't doing anything..i came a cross a great article that discusses this notion, follow me below the fold.
Josh Hammond has a terrific list of his accomplishments in his article What The "Do Nothing" Obama Has Accomplished That We Choose To Ignore Or Fail To Acknowledge, some of which i haven't even heard of:
Let's continue with what he has done. First and foremost, none other than the Wall Street Journal, in an assessment titled, "Democrats Quiet Changes Pile Up", says he has accomplished more in nine months than George Bush did in his first nine months.
Let's be specific:
- Significantly, he buried the Imperial Presidency of George Bush and restored the Constitutional balance of government by respecting the equal standing of the legislative branch of government. As a former constitutional law professor, this is a major matter of change of tone and style that he promised during the campaign, and he has delivered. (Not pretty or necessarily effective given the Reid-less leadership in the Senate, but we are a constitutional democracy.)
so very very true.
A couple of others that I liked:
- Extended a $2500 tax credit to 5 million families to help with college tuition.
- Cooperated with Japan in bringing a $5 billion stabilization package for Pakistan.
- Engaged the Muslim world in a dialogue, beginning with his unprecedented speech in Cairo, followed by an interview with Al Arabiya, and face-to-face discussions with Iran, a total reversal of the Bush years of Muslim baiting and hate.
There are many others, and they are better read in his article than my attempt to paraphrase them.
President Obama has done so much more than most in their first 9 months but it seems people don't want to look at the accomplishments, only the things they don't like.
Well if we don't start having his back, then we will have a republican in power in 2012, which is the last thing we want. If we kill HCR then there is nothing that can be amended in the next year. In fact it would likely be another 20 years because if he fails on this, then he won't get anything much passed which will result in a republican presidency.
