When Tom Tancredo decided not to run for a 4th term as the congressional rep for Colorado's 6th district, there was much relief from this constituent. I had truly hoped that he would decide to parlay his name recognition into a fortune by appearing on talking head shows. But no, sadly, the money must not be pouring in, or his lust for power is just too great because now he's going to run for governor of the great state of Colorado.
You know where to go for the rest of this...
According to Eli Stokols of KDVR, channel 31, the Denver FOX affiliate, Tancredo hasn't filed yet, but plans to "in the next several days":
"I haven't filed anything yet," Tancredo said. "There are a whole bunch of things we have to put together to get to the point of filing. We're not there yet, but we are looking. Once we get those ducks in a row, those organizational things, I anticipate we'll file in a relatively short time."
Apparently, also according to Mr Stokols, this has not yet been confirmed by the state GOP chair, Dick Wadhams, or as I like to refer to him, "Dick Wad".
Mario Solis-Marich, who has a really fun progressive radio show on AM760 out of Boulder, Monday-Friday, 4PM-7PM, has been begging Tancredo to enter the race for some time. Mario has asked many of his listeners to join the campaign at the Facebook page: Draft Tom Tancredo for Governor
According to Mr Solis-Marich, in spite of his selfless promotion of that group, he has since been booted out of it. He wrote this in an article posted on Alternet:
...I was shocked, hurt, and disappointed when I was kicked out of the Draft Tom Tancredo for Governor" Facebook page! You can find the group here: Draft Tom Tancredo for Governor. Especially since my team and I had just spearheaded a membership drive for the page that caused hundreds of my shows listeners to join the draft Tancredo effort. I have heard sadly that in an act that can only be described as a mass "cyber-deportation" many of my listeners have been booted from the page as well. I now know why Beck cries- it’s the hurt.
So the questions are on the table. Will he really run or will the state GOP discourage such a polarizing figure from entering the race? Would he listen to them if they tried to discourage him? If he runs, does he have a chance at winning? Would the Scozzafava effect kick in and guarantee a landslide to incumbant Democratic Governor Bill Ritter? Will Sarah endorse him? Will the Sarah bus come to Colorado and campaign for him?
And the biggest question of all: How does Lou Dobbs figure into all of this?
Get your popcorn ready.
Update: If Tancredo enters the race as he says he will, he will have a battle in a primary against Scott McInnis. McInnis is a former State House rep, State House majority leader, and he served six terms in the U.S. House, representing Colorado's Colorado's 3rd district.
Josh Penry was in the primary race and was endorsed by Tancredo. When Penry, a protege of McInnis, dropped out of the race, Tancredo jumped in.
