Via Atrios, comes this nugget from Politico.
The Republican National Committee’s health insurance plan covers elective abortion – a procedure the party’s own platform calls "a fundamental assault on innocent human life." Federal Election Commission Records show the RNC purchases its insurance from Cigna. Two sales agents for the company said that the RNC’s policy covers elective abortion.
According to several Cigna employees, the insurer offers its customers the opportunity to opt out of abortion coverage – and the RNC did not choose to opt out.
This looks quite hypocritical. The Party of "life" having a policy written that confers upon all their female staff members choice over their own reproductive freedom as part of their benefits package. I am sure they have a great excuse.
Informed of the coverage, RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told POLITICO that the policy pre-dates the tenure of current RNC Chairman Michael Steele."The current policy has been in effect since 1991, and we are taking steps to address the issue," Gitcho said.
That's it. The other chairmen were abortion loving traitors from the period between 1991, and the moment they got caught out. Lee Atwater, Clayton Yeutter, Richard Bond, Haley Barbour, Jim Nicholson, Jim Gilmore, Marc Racicot, Ed Gillespie, Ken Mehlman, Mike Duncan, & Mel Martinez all were just wrong. Good thing Michael Steele is here to make sure that they don't look like the world's worst fucking hypocrites on the planet.
One hears stories all the time about the politicians in DC who mouth words to their constituents that they don't believe themselves, but it rallies the base, and allows them to keep getting elected. The closeted gay issue in the GOP has been well documented with several anti-gay republicans being gay themselves, or hiring staffers that they know, and personally don't care are gay. Then, they head back to the district to talk about their evangelical cred with the flock.
Michael Steele is the 12th RNC head in a row in charge since the Republicans renegotiated their health care benefits to include reproductive choice. It behooves us to mention to all our GOP loving friends and family what weasels they support.
