Since yesterday we have been seeing another wave of delusional euphoria erupting on Daily Kos when the CBO scored the Senate healthcare bill in a positive way. For many, this is it, we won, we finally got a healthcare bill. But the delusion will always be crushed by reality and the reality is that this Senate healthcare bill is going nowhere in its current form and in particular in the current form of the public option that it contains.
As long as the bill contains this current form of public option Lieberman is going to filibuster the final vote on the bill and so will all the republicans and hence there will not be 60 votes to overcome the filibuster on the final vote.
This bill will go for debate on the Senate floor because Lieberman promised not to filibuster a debate, and many here will again go into another delusional euphoria and claim yet again we won. But when the final vote on the bill will come there will not be 60 votes to break the filibuster and the bill in its current form will be dead.
The only way to pass a healthcare bill in the Senate is to have no public option at all or a meaningless trigger public option or even a more meaningless trigger co-op.
Those who think that there will be reconciliation are deluding themselves because there will not be reconciliation or nuclear option.
