In the early morning hours of February 26th, Dannie Baker of Miramar Beach Florida snapped. He had worked hard in the 2004 campaign to keep the worst from happening. In 2008, he'd warned his fellow Republicans, but they had blown him off, calling his letters "disturbing". He knew what was coming because he listened to the right radio programs. Rush, Beck, Hannity -- they all saw the danger like he did.
But now it was happening. Obama had wasted no time opening the floodgates for illegal aliens. It wasn't some vague threat, it was happening now, this morning. Hoards of them were flooding into his country, his state, his apartment complex. There were fourteen of them right there in the townhouse right across the complex. He could see them from his window.
So he did what any real patriot would do. He started shooting.
They were students from Chile, here in Florida on a work-travel program. Racine Libia Balbontin-Argandona and Nicholas Pablo Corp-Torres died on the scene. Sebastian Mauricio Arizaga-Suarez and David Alonzo Bilbao-Meza were wounded but survived. Francisco Javier Cofre-Fernandez was shot in the face and suffers from permanent hearing and vision loss.
Yesterday, Dannie was found incompetent to stand trial. His mental state prevents him from understanding the penalties he might face if found guilty or participating in his own defense. He will be remanded to the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee until his psychosis can be controlled. If he ever recovers enough to stand trial, the state may seek the death penalty.
It's always people like Dannie who start shooting. But you can't really blame the Right for the actions of a few mentally disturbed people, can you?
