Yesterday, a billboard in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge made the news at Huffington Post, Coloradopols and DailyKos.
It was discussed on local Progressive Talk Radio by host David Sirota.
Late yesterday, the billboard was altered. It now includes the words "birth certificate" in addition to its previous message(s).
Today, the billboard was covered by the Boulder Daily Camera, and by the local Fox Affiliate, KDVR.
ProgressNow Action has launched a boycott effort against the merchant involved.
I arrived at the sign, which is at the corner of Miller and the North I-70 Service Road around 2 this afternoon MDT. It is two blocks west of Kipling (on 49th Ave/Service Road).
There were three people there. Two were taking pictures. One had just arrived and was holding a protest sign calling for a boycott. I snapped some pics, thanked the lady protesting, and returned to work.
As you can see, there were cars stopping to talk to the protester. We have a chance to make this a successful pressure effort.
Don't stop contacting the website in the photo and calling the numbers (there are two phone numbers in the pics). You can also stop by and hold up a hand made sign, and make some friends doing so.
Help stop the loudmouth bigots at Wolf Auto Group.
Update: Ita on TV now. The local NBC affiliate has a piece that includes the lady with the sign (YAY!), who gets a speaking part, and the owner of the lot, Mr Wolf (BOO!), who gets a lot of speaking parts.
Mr wolf never manages to actually justify the content of his message. He is never directly asked what makes his sign a good sign, or anything like that. Instead, he is permitted to hold forth, complaining about employees being harassed, and asserting that he "only" did this as a means of honoring and drawing attention to the people at Ft Hood. In other words, he wants us to believe that associating the President with murder and questioning his citizenship honors the dead.
How it could ever do that was not asked of Mr Wolf.
I hope this community will ask him to explain himself. And I hope the memory of Ft Hood will not become an excuse for demanding the impossible when it comes to the president's birth credentials.
This is a nice report in many ways, almost 4 minutes long. It includes more protesters and a helicopter view of the sign. Well worth a look!
The Billboard was covered by the Denver Post both on Friday and on Saturday.
