Apparently, the Republican National Committee thinks that the ever increasingly used verb, Scozzafavaed, is a good thing. From the NY Times:
Republican leaders are circulating a resolution listing 10 positions Republican candidates should support to demonstrate that they "espouse conservative principles and public policies" that are in opposition to "Obama’s socialist agenda." According to the resolution, any Republican candidate who broke with the party on three or more of these issues– in votes cast, public statements made or answering a questionnaire – would be penalized by being denied party funds or the party endorsement.
More below...
The resolution invokes Ronald Reagan, and noted that Mr. Reagan had said the Republican Party should be devoted to conservative principles but also be open to diverse views. President Reagan believed, the resolution notes, "that someone who agreed with him 8 out of 10 times was his friend, not his opponent."
In other words, in Republican la-la land, diversity is fine so long as you don't exceed 20% diversity. It also doesn't stipulate whether one disagreement might garner more than 10% diversity if the diversity was REALLY diverse (e.g. pro-choice - see also, Scozzafavaed).
Here is the resolution’s list:
(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s "stimulus" bill;
*because Bush was so good at maintaining a small government
**so, you're for cutting the military budget?
***might want to put in a proviso where you can still take credit for the stimulus even though you oppose it
(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run health care;*so, you're just going to admit to being owned by the insurance industry?
(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation;*so, you're just going to admit to being owned by the insurance energy industry?
(4) We support workers’ right to secret ballot by opposing card check;*aka - anti-union
(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;*you might as well just drop the first part because you're never getting the Latino vote back
(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges;*what part of Commander-In-Chief don't you understand?
(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat;*by "effective action", what do you mean exactly?
(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;*wait, didn't Texas just outlaw marriage?
(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion;*I'm assuming by "vulnerable persons" you mean "not poor people", right?
(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership; and be further.*We get it, you want to continue to have the right to bring concealed guns to Presidential speaking events...how very "Patriotic" of you.
*, ** and *** = my response
I'd like to hear any other suggestions that my fellow kossacks can think of to add to their list. Michael Steele will be dropping by to answer any and all of your questions, because...that's just how he rolls.
