Whether the result of psychosis or an undiagnosed, on-air aneurysm resulting in (temporary?) mental incapacity during her "commentary" on Hannity last night, Dana Perino has finally given all of us who suspected that she was woefully miscast in the role as White House Press Secretary the closure we have sought for her nonsensical ramblings at the podium.
She is utterly and completely divorced from reality.
I'll let the video speak for itself:
With that one statement, Dana Perino has personified the concept of an EPIC FAIL to a degree that I did not think was possible!
Yes, this person was the White House Press Secretary! And no, Sean Hannity and the other MENSA member sitting next to the unfortunate one when she made this comment did not correct her.
This is an insult to the entire country but especially to the thousands of families who lost their loved ones on 9-11, to the Anthrax attacks that followed, and on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq*.
*I include Iraq here only because many of our young men and women who eventually found themselves in peril in this unjust, unfounded war had initially enlisted out of a sense of patriotism and duty to serve their country in the wake of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
UPDATE:
In discussing Perino's moment of EPIC ignorance/mistake, I may have actually started to convince myself that she simply misspoke... this time. And that she is not once more displaying her lack of common sense. The alternative is too sad/scary.
Yes, holiday driving and thoughts of turkey and stuffing dull my schadenfreude tendencies.
Perhaps, she will unleash another precious verbal gem that will cause me to bang my head against the wall in the near future, proving that she really IS that out there. But for now, thanks to the transcription in Jed Lewison's Diary, I am thinking she may have had an unintentional and epically unfortunate verbal slip and actually meant the opposite of her statement.
I know I'm playing a dangerous game here of trying to find logic and coherence in a Perino statement but bear with me for a second...
Jed posted in pertinent part:
PERINO: You know, they want to do all their investigations...I don't know their thinking that goes into it. But, you know, we did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term. I hope they're not looking at this politically. I do think that we owe it to the American people to call it what it is.
The sentence "I hope they're not looking at this politically" is what grabs me. To s-t-r-e-t-c-h reality to the point of attempting to discount 9-11 as a terrorist attack does not link up with this immediate statement. Even in the "mind" of Perino. (I think.)
The way I am now processing this, if her intention had been to somehow deny 9-11 as a terrorist attack, I would expect her to be wholly focused (as much as possible) on pressing the political angle.
Thoughts?
