What city on Planet Earth greatest represents the Taker culture than New York City. Overpopulation, pollution, gross-capitalism, greed, non-friendly people that would be offended by a friendly hello whilst on their way to there seemingly important jobs....
What better way to continue the trend than by having the Mayor (seemingly devoid of term-limits...might he be mayor when my children have children?) spend $100+ million dollars to narrowly defeat some Comptroller no one had ever heard about.
This is what Democracy means in our time. Money can buy elections.
Since money can buy elections, let's think about the nature of our republic for a moment. Most people think finance reform would make things more fair. Why is it that money can buy elections in the first place?
The same power that allows advertisers to trick us into buying things we don't need, the same power that propaganda plays in influencing our perceptions about the world around us...those are used during "campaigns". Those silly 30 second ads have amazing effects on the human psyche.
The point isn't to make things fair, to allow two sides (only two in this great "democracy") have equal brainwashing power...the point is that the brainwashing power makes the elections not real to begin with. People aren't voting in a reasoned way, they are voting because there were a lot of signs with the name "Joe Smith" blazoned upon them.
Nothing will change I realize this but please give me a break with saying we live in a "democratic" society, and that we have power with our votes. It's simply not true. From the way we vote, the way we shop, the jobs we are forced to do...very little is in our control though we believe it is so.
There is my rant for the day.
