UPDATE: fixed vid html.
"When it comes to explaining what health care reform means to you, who do you trust?" Biden asks in the video. "Do you trust the people who defend the status quo, who say you'd be better off leaving things just the way they are? Or, would you rather hear from the people who actually know something about what's going on in our health care system?"
A few Republican doctors aside, Biden shows us health care workers feel a great moral conflict every day. Video of the VP and them below the fold.
Because most nurses and doctors aren't Beckian, racist wing-nuts:
[h/t to TPM.]
The White House always seems to save the VP for the difficult debates. His PR appeal is way over the heads of Sens. Lincoln or Nelson. And compared to these, Biden seems no less empathetic and responsive to working people--he's more. Not to mention it's hard to use thinly-veiled racism as an excuse for ignoring his words. Remember, Biden was a strong contender for the presidency 20 years ago. He knows how to navigate the film medium.
That said, I'm not really a fan of these web videos. While I appreciate the importance of actually doing them, watchers likely already agree with memes like "the status quo is unacceptable" and have probably heard it 50 times. Me: it might be poetic justice if Alan Grayson and Michael Moore wake up sleeping senators with a blowhorn while they read the names of the dead... but that's schadenfreude.
Maybe Biden would make more progress were he to go to the senate to address Democrats? Not that such deal-making would prove a silver bullet for the filibuster. This venal pack of Republicans ignored their best friend forever Senator Kennedy--doubtful that Biden would improve bipartisan support's chances. Anyway, I defer to more seasoned health care commentators.
