The healthcare reform debacle, failure to address the high national unemployment rate, ramping up of the war in Afghanistan, half-measures to address climate change....
The list of historic failures by the Democratic Party go on and on. (Where are LBJ and FDR when we need them?) I have never followed the national legislative process as closely as I have this year, and I am just absolutely shocked at the crass maneuvering, selling of votes to lobbyists and general disregard for the welfare of the American people that is so rampant on Capitol Hill.
I say we throw the bums out.
I know that President Obama is catching a lot of flak for failing to deliver on most of his campaign promises thus far. But frankly, he may be doing as well as he can given the Congress with which he must work.
We need new blood in Congress. Someone (McCaskill?) spoke about "draining the swamp," and I couldn't agree more. It's beyond time to throw this group of hacks out and replace them with elected public servants who truly have the best interests of the American people at heart. I want to see a Congress that looks like America - women, men, Black, White, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, bisexual and transgender. I want to see a congress that represents all strata of America: wealthy, middle class, working class and poor.
My son-in-law stated it most succinctly: If we continue to allow these unethical, self-serving hacks to represent us, then we deserve what we get.
I don't know about you, but I want a better class of people working for America in Washington, D.C.
