I was thinking a while back when reconciliation was being touted as the best way to get the Public Option. Yeah, screw it, push it through that way and it will be robust and clearly a better way of bringing costs down.
There was some concern about how we get the actual health care overhaul passed since many believe that those aspects wouldn't be subject to reconciliation.
I figured if reconciliation was used for the public option, the obstructionists would NEVER allow the reform bill to be passed later. They'd be too pissed.
We now seem to have a way. If Democrats play it correctly and get this current bill, which is basically a reform bill with the medicare buy-in, passed. Get Republicans to go for it and get more than 60 votes, we have the overhaul.
Once President Obama signs it, the public option can be pushed through reconciliation. We get a robust public option with 51 votes and no need to rely upon fake Democrats.
Not much of a diary, hopefully the Democratic leadership has already thought of this.
