I'm sickened and depressed by the attitude among liberals, which, IMO, is approaching that of the tea baggers in the denial of reality and the short-sightedness.
You make it all sound so simple--so simple that you actually know more about what's going on INSIDE these debates than the President or the leadership in congress. Isn't that exactly the attitude of the tea baggers? And what about TRUST? Doesn't it make you feel uncomfortable that you adored (and many still do adore) this president, but suddenly have up and decided you don't trust his decisionmaking--because that's what all of your griping and sniping is communicating. What a wonderful toolbox of weapons you are putting in the hands of his rabid enemies. Why don't you just jump ship and join them openly?
Next, about that shortsightedness you exhibit: What about the process? Again, you are acting just as ignorant as the far right. Maddow used the little animated bill to inform on how a bill becomes law. OK, fine, but what about the process by which a president can influence Congress, hmmmm? I'm listening right now to Anthony Weiner on Hardball arguing that the president isn't doing what he can do to get this done. OK, Weiner, WHAT SHOULD HE DO??? Strong-arm the naysayers? Oh, sure, that's exactly what the right would love to use to continue their silly Nazi parallels. And to what avail? Anyone he tried to strongarm would run to the press and whine about it--because clearly, those Democrats who have joined the obstructionist Republicans have no love for the President. They know full well, those Blue Dogs, that bucking the President will help them with the conservative percentage in their constituencies--a percentage whom they obviously care far more about (plus their health insurance "employers") than the rest of the people in this country (so much for the constitutionally intended role of the so-called longsightedness of the Senate vs. the House). Someone respond to this blog, please by telling me what the heck the President could possibly DO here?
Lastly, and this is a point I've wanted to mention before but haven't, people, you are being simplistic-like-teabaggers yet again when you don't understand--and won't help the administration with your support of--the jobs issue. Folks, you know as well as I that companies won't increase hiring if no one is buying their products or services. The President CAN'T MAKE JOBS out of thin air (i.e. no demand). This is a message which I do fault the administration for not making clear to this ignorant public we are members of. I can fully understand why they didn't work on the jobs issue earlier--until there were signs of recovery, any job stimulation would work no better than the efforts to get the banks lending again. The conditions much change before stimulation will truly stimulate, what is so hard to understand about that? Do you think we live in a vaccum in which troubles in the rest of the world are irrelevant? GET REAL, people! I'm shrieking this because I am increasingly disgusted by the shallowness and ignorance of the left right now. It truly is rising (well, actually "falling") to the same level as the teabaggers. What we need to do is elevate the dialog to reflect the complex reality we have.
My god, if we do not show respect and admiration for our President--even if we don't always agree with him (for whatever reasons)--we are only adding to the right's successful efforts to paint him as incompetent. If we cannot show courage and stand firm behind the man we elected by showing our trust for his judgment and knowledge--which doesn't mean we think he's always right, as no one ever IS--then how can we possibly fight the ignorance and hate and selfishness which is ruining not only our political system, but our entire country? Who was it who said WE and the ones we've been waiting for? And yet what do "WE" do as soon as the going gets rough? "We" abandon our leader. And in doing so, we also abandon ourselves.
