sure, we could bypass the filibuster through the budget reconciliation process. However, those with long memories may remember the notion that there were attempts previously to remove the filibuster entirely by Republicans. This of course was termed the nuclear option because without the filibuster the then-minority Democrats would have no choice but to use every procedural trick in the book to slow the work of the Senate down.
of course, now the republicans are aiming to use those tactics anyway against HCR.
so my honest question for all of you is "if the nuclear option has already been invoked, why keep the filibuster?"
It is time to stop handing a veto to 12% of the American public! Remove the filibuster.
really, that's it.
no body.
my only question is, if the Republicans are going to pull out the stops to stop HCR, what possible reason is there to NOT remove this horrible mockery of democracy called the filibuster?
Its not like this isn't exactly the same treatment that every other Democratic initiative is going to face. Climate Change? of course REpublicans aren't going to stop at anything, because they are no longer the loyal opposition. They are obstructionist. it's time to remove their proceduaral tools.
There must be some good reason I am unaware of. Dear kossacks, enlighten me!
