(Update: Two hours into this diary and as is typical, the diary brings out opponents of the War on Drugs, but very few people who favor prohibition respond. It's a debate that is worth having as there has to be a better way of minimizing the ill effects of drugs than simply handing the drug trade off to criminals that are given huge incentives to murder people like this Marine's family. Prohibitionists, please help us understand your side!!!)
This will be short and is more of rant than a well thought out diary but for all you people out there that still favor the "war on drugs" please read this briefest of articles from CNN.

Marines Family Murdered
The gist is that in apparent retaliation for the death of a major drug cartel leader last week, the surviving leadership of that drug cartel decided to kill the family of one of the Marines that was also killed in the raid last week.
Please, please explain to me how you can still favor prohibition? It needlessly raises taxes, needlessly takes away resources from other societal needs, breeds contempt for the rule of law, puts minorities in prison in far greater numbers than warranted, is the leading cause of police corruption, leads to violence and death along every step of the international drug trade, it empowers narco-terrorists (including the Taliban and the FARC)and leads to actually more drug deaths in America.
This is the result of our collective "war on drugs". If you still support this failed policy, why?
But before you answer that question please take a look at one other item you may have missed. (Warning: it's graphic but not as graphic as other pictures that could have been published as a result of your support for this war)

Nice, huh?
So please, enlighten me. Why do you favor policies that create death and misery? When answering your question please start your response off with the sentence "I favor empowering criminals by putting them in charge of the drug trade. This is the best policy because...."
Go ahead, I'm dying to hear it.
