I'm speaking, of course, about the Health Care Reform debate. The Associated Press, among others, is reporting that Liberal politicians are now looking to find a compromise to the already compromised health care reform bills in the Senate.
Given the complexities of the two programs, and the White House's goal of passing legislation by year's end, it wasn't clear whether the negotiations would ultimately prove successful, or whether they merely were a last stab by liberals to salvage some concession in a monthslong debate.
To salvage "some concession"? Really? That is what is left for a political Party that has the White House, the Senate, and the House? To salvage some concession?
The Liberal's have lost...
You didn't lose because you are liberal, or, that because the country is some "center-right" nation. You lost because of your President that decided to give up on any meaningful legislation from the start.
America has watched this debate from the time when candidate Obama campaigned on a public option. We watched as he let Harry Reid put conservatives and conserva-Dem's in charge of crafting the Senate bill. We watched as single-payer was killed from day one. We got to see President Obama go behind closed doors to assure insurance companies wouldn't lose business or profits. We got to see an idea get watered down until it meant nothing.
Now, we get to see the liberal politician's try to salvage something out of this whole debacle.
Something... anything...
Liberal's lost this fight because you simply weren't allowed to fight it from the beginning, and, who do you think made that occur?
American's who want a public option that will help them are going to see nothing meaningful, and, who do you think made that occur?
Which two people made sure that it was conservatives and conservative-Democrat's got to craft the bill to begin with? Who made the backroom deals? Who sat back and let this debacle occur in the Senate?
Liberal's didn't get "outfoxed" by the Republican Party. You got taken by your own President that made sure Joe Lieberman kept his power in the Senate, that met with the insurance industry behind closed doors, and said he simply wanted a bill passed, no matter what.
America spoke loud and clear in 2008. You got 60 votes in the Senate, the White House, and a big majority in the House. Who kept that from being enough to stop corporate America from profiting?
Liberal's are now relegated to giving up on the public option all together to get... something... anything... because ONE man made Olympia Snowe a must, despite the fact she wanted to water-down the public option even more.
You lost.
But, do you recognize that you never were allowed to fight the fight to begin with?
