I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it any more! Go to your windows...er, well, no don't go to your windows, go to your Republican congressperson or their website, or phone line, or snail-mail address, or wherever you can make contact and tell them what you think of their strategy of obstruction.
I blew a gasket today and wrote both of my senators, and it's very painful to write "my" in this context, John McCain and Jon Kyl. What a pair, huh? I'm sure they probably already have me on some disgruntled constituent list since I've written before, but I just couldn't hold it in any longer. Hence...
To Sen. McCain:
As an unfortunate constituent of yours and a registered Republican who always votes, I must register my disgust with your recent efforts to discourage bipartisanship. You just don't get it do you? That's exactly the reason that I voted for Obama last November. It will be a cold day in hell before you get my vote in the future.
It was cathartic, if not persuasive, so I wrote Kyl too...
To Sen. Kyl:
As an unfortunate constituent of yours and a registered Republican who always votes, I must register my disgust with your recent efforts to discourage bipartisanship. You will not be receiving my vote in the future and I sincerely hope that your tenure amongst the congressional Republican leadership is short lived.
Yeah, that's right, I'm a registered Republican and always have been. However, for the last 25 years or so I've been more of an anti-Republican and I don't want to give up my right to vote against Republican incumbents twice each cycle, in both the primary and general elections, especially in AZ. When Independents can vote in the primary of their choice I will reregister, until then I'll continue to be a disloyal Republican. It's the politics of anger.
I have hope that things can change in the future and that my participation in politics may one day be based on something less emotional, but for now I'm still flailing away at the last 8 years like I'm warding off an attack of killer bees. It just blows my mind that the Republicans seem to think that they can recycle failed policies, as if no one's been paying attention to what got us in this mess in the first place. So, I thought maybe I'd just let them know that I was paying attention, and I really don't appreciate it. Maybe we all should.
It may not help, but it can't hurt, for these determined obstructionists to hear from their constituents. If they'll bow to pressure from Rush Limbaugh then a few thousand disgruntled constituents should at least make them pause and think. Let's just hope they spit their chewing gum out first.
