We're in trouble, right? We're experiencing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, the road ahead will not be easy or straight, yada yada. This is a time for shared sacrifice, we've all got to pull together-- and do what? Will somebody tell me?
During WWII we bought War Bonds, planted victory gardens, and refrained from allowing loose lips to sink ships. Now we're in trouble again. I wanna help. But Barack, you gotta meet me halfway: ask me to DO something.
And if the president won't tell me, maybe some of you will. We have a lot of fine minds here. Me, I'm just a pizza delivery boy who's gonna be late for band practice because of writing this. But I can't believe I'm the only schmuck who would be happy to take some course of action if it would speed the end of this crisis.
So far all I've heard is be patient, and maybe support the legislators who are trying to do the Right Thing. That's great, but it doesn't make me feel like I'm helping much. It doesn't engender that we're-all-in-this-together feeling.
What should I do? Seriously! Should I join the Payroll Savings Plan and buy T-bills? Or, conversely, should I make a point of conspicuously spending every dollar I get my hands on? (This latter would be very little different from what I'm doing now, btw.)
I can't believe I'm the only guy in America who would make an effort to help out if he were told how. During the war they made people save tin cans, and I seem to recall they didn't even really need the tin; it just made folks feel better. Even if nothing I can do would help, I'd still like to do it.
So what is it? T-bills? Bottle and can drive? Or what? Surely there's SOMETHING I can do besides bitch about Republicans. We're here, Barack; and I think there are a lot of us. How can we help?
