Look out, Show-Me State...Roy Blunt wants to be your senator.
According to news sources in Springfield, Roy Blunt (R-MO7) is poised to announce for retiring Senator Kit Bond's seat in the 2010 election, where he would likely meet up with SOS Robin Carnahan.
Not so fast, though. Roy's probably got a primary against former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who was tangled up in a pretty nasty GOP runoff against Kenny Hulsof last year in the governor's race. Steelman and Hulsof bloodied each other up badly enough that neither would have managed a decent campaign against Jay Nixon, to whom Hulsof ran a poor second.
Meanwhile, the present SOS, Robin Carnahan, has already announced for the Democratic spot in the 2010 primary. Most conventional wisdom points to Steelman as a better match in a race with Carnahan, and she will most likely play the 'Old Washington Establishment' card as she did while campaigning against Hulsof last year.
Blunt is reported to be announcing on Thursday, February 17 in the St. Louis metro area.
Stay tuned!
