I messed-up today.
I know how to write in various styles. That's not me bragging . . . it's just me saying that I've practiced a lot.
There are certain ways I do not want to write . . . and there are certain ways I do. And then there's my "real voice" and personality coming across on the screen.
Different topics might call for different voices; different approaches. But your "voice" should be consistent. So when you're snarking, it's fun snark, but it's still the same person talking as when you are serious.
This is me:
My name is **. (I prefer Lithium over the net). I don't mean, ever, to be insulting to people. Sometimes I'll snark at someone just because they're being silly, or because they are snarking first.
But I think writing-style is something you have to hone. Some folks on Dailykos have it naturally. Some of us practice.
Example: Kos's writing style is very good. He is neutral when he wants to be neutral. Georgia10 is always passionate; she can't help it. And that's great.
SusanG is extraordinarily generous in her style. She always thinks first to thank someone else, rather than to praise herself. And, again, that's wonderful.
Everyone has a style. Your favorite diarists all do.
My goal, for myself, is to learn how to write in various ways. BUT NOT IN NON-FICTION MODE. I don't think I have a non-fiction "voice" yet.
I've spent so much time practicing two ways of writing (fiction and philosophy) that it's tough for me to just write as myself. The first (fiction) is artistic (or it's supposed to be, lol) the second is technical.
Okay, here is my question: do you feel comfortable with your DailyKos voice?
