... and so can you! (in writing, see below the fold).
or ... "Elections Do Matter."
From today's This Week in Congress post, the House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing February 25 at 10AM EST, on Scientific Objectives for Climate Change Legislation. The lead witness will be James Hansen. And yes, this (minor) revolution will be televised (link will be live during hearing). More below the fold.
In announcing this hearing, Chairman Rangel said, "The development of climate change legislation will be a priority for the Ways and Means Committee during the 111th Congress. The Committee must define the environmental objectives that we hope to achieve with climate change legislation before we can design such legislation. These objectives must be based on science."
Then: evolution-denying baby wing-nuts were tasked to censor Hansen. Now: Hansen is front-and-center, the lead witness in Congressional hearings, setting out the scientific basis for legislation to combat global warming. What a refreshing change!
Here is the full witness lineup:
Witnesses Panel:
Dr. James Hansen, Adjunct Professor, The Earth Institute at Columbia University, New York, New York
Dr. Brenda Ekwurzel, Climate Scientist, Union of Concerned Scientists
Dr. John Christy, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and Director of the Earth System Science Center, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Huntsville, Alabama
Besides watching the video or attending the hearing (1100 Longworth House Office Building, for those in town), more direct participation is also possible. The Committee has invited anyone interested to submit written testimony (deadline is March 11) that will be entered in the formal hearing record.
