Obama's AG, Eric Holder has stated that the Obama administration WILL be looking at reimplementing the Assault Weapons ban.

When will we learn?
People don't want this ban. Any common ground that Democrats have created with populist southerners or Ohioans or Pennsylvanians who hunt will be instantly wiped out if this happens.
Whatever people think, this ban will cause a backlash among a lot of middle of the road voters in important states. There are lots of hunters and gun owners who will be livid about this in Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina.
The article that I linked to quotes the NRA president (with whom I agree about very little) saying that there are alot of Democratic congressmen cringing today. Well he's right, and they should be. Taking their eye off the economic, healthcare and international affairs issues to fight with Republicans on ground that they control is a surefire way to turn the Obama administration into a disaster. America doens't want an argument about the relative evils of 11 round magazines versus 10 round magazines, or the increased lethality of a rifle with a pistol grip (ha!).
There are sensible laws that can be passed that will solve problems with gun crime, but an assault weapons ban just isn't one of them. If beople are buying truckloads of guns in Arizona and selling them in Mexico, then they need to be arrested and jailed for illegal arms trafficking. How does banning the sale of only newly manufactured guns with certain features change any of this?
I hope this isn't the be beginning of the end of the Obama admin's honeymoon....but I'm very afraid that it might be.
