to contract syphillis and lung cancer. Okay, maybe they don't, but they do want to take money from the stimulus package's STI prevention and smoking cessation and shuffle it over to the FDIC. I say give the FDIC what it needs, but how can they be anti-anti-STI. The alternate proposal is to use TARP funds. Wow, that seems logical, use bank bailout funds to fund the FDIC. I guess that would make too much sense.
Why oh why, does a senator from North Dakota care about the bankers? It doesn't really matter, the amendment's going down like a test pilot with one wing. Still, it doesn't sit right with me, that a dem, albeit a marginal one, would sponsor this shite.
STI treatment costs money, and crazily enough, most people who contract one are uninsured. Who pays for that, well, if they have medicaid, then we all do, and if they don't, then those of us with insurance pay higher medical bills to make up for their nonpayment.
Wait you say, you are trying to use reason, and we just won't have that in the senate. Whatever, these guys are spending 350 billion dollars on tax cuts that don't work, and it's proven. One line item for something that may save the government down the road, and they try to scrap it pisses me off, especially since a 'supposed' one of our own cosponsored it.
I was hoping that some form of this bill, even this castrated one, would pass tonight. It doesn't appear that will happen. Way to go guys. You could have forced a vote last night, but instead you compromised. I thought the compromise was going to get this inadequate POS passed. Instead I see ridiculous amendments like this one.
A politician is someone who will stab you in the back, while smiling in your face. I'm not trying to be melodramatic, but we may actually be doomed.
I'm going to stop watching CSPAN2 adn watch Battlestar Galactica now, and then I'm going to bed. Thanks senators [lower case intentional throughout this diary] you've helped to reduce my faith in our great democracy. Good job! I don't think that's what your constituents elected you to do.
