Stewart's show really has two main comedic targets: The politicians and the the news organizations that cover them. While Bush and Company gave him a gift basket of double talk audio clips, contradictory statements and idiotic moments to poke fun at, the viewer and thus Stewart started to wonder: why is the "fake news" show showing the double talk and not the "real news" networks.
It all started with the original Bush v. Bush bit In 2003 when you were not allowed to criticize the President in war time and the "official Democratic party had been disbanded," it was the fake news guy, who, in a comedic way showed that Bush was going against his own principals he ran on in 2000. How many of us asked now "why as the so called liberal media not picked up on this?" Where is the Murrow's or old school Rathers to expose and question the President.
Then came the Crossfire showwhich ultimately ended that show. Then you see him go after the 24 hour news channels more often. MSNBC knows Stewart helped expose what Crossfire was: a partition hack show that had no real value. Watch the interview closely as he indites the show and its know it all premise.
He called it theater and that is what he is now calling Jim Kramer. But in this case the theater touches real people who look to CNBC for direction because that is what they sell.
With 24 hours to fill and 5 "newsy" programs fighting for 24 hours they have to fill the time. CNBC use to have Kudlow and Cramer. Not a good show but it had some information and points of view the investor could use. But Kramer had this gift to entertain and he wanted to be out on his own.
He got his own show and with bells and whistles and audio shtick and during the bull market he was correct more than not (so was I, it was a bull market) When he liked a stock he would hit the "BUY,BUY,BUY!!!!" button and common folks would say "Man this guy is confident. He has his own TV show! He must be right!? I will Buy Buy Buy." Stewart and his staff understand CNBC's reach and wanted to let everyone know they aint as smart as they say they are.
Of course no news channel would point out the guy who has a big following and who just told everyone to sell all their stocks was dead wrong on the biggest collapse in our history. It had to be Stewart, the comedian.
This clip encompassed Stewart's indictment of the entire CNN, FOX, MSNBC formats. He exposes CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CNBC every week. He gives us glimpses of not ready for primetime anchors saying off the wall things. He Shows us how the Bush Admin used each network for the talking points. Only his show could show all the clips to piece it together revealing Rove, Chaney, Rice etc. saying the same exact thing on all stations then the talking heads helping out by saying the same lines through out the day.
He is the only one watching the news networks and they know it so they decided to fight back with Kramer. I feel more will come.
