So, as we all know, when Barack Obama decided to choose sound science over unsound ideology on the stem cell issue last week, the Republicans in Congress (and their enablers in the media) launched into a predictable counterattack.
WHY, OH WHY, they wondered in unison, is the President dithering with these other issues when the economy is in a shambles. Why, this president is not serving the people, because he is so distracted by things that really shouldn't matter right now!! It's the ECONOMY, STUPID!!!!! AAAAAAAARGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
Um...the GOP media machine, as well as Boehner, Cantor, and the boys, might want to have a word with Florida freshman Rep. Bill Posey. He just went Alan Keyes, and wants Congress to go with him.
Yep, kids, once Dick Shelby opened his piehole in Cullman, Alabama, a few weeks back (link here for those who forgot), you had to know that some enterprising little Republican was gonna go there.
So, it should shock no one, and yet disgust everyone, that not only is Rep. Posey seeking to inflame the Obama is not really a citizen meme, he is seeking to change federal law to keep it alive.
On Thursday, he introduced a bill that stated that all presidential candidates would have to furnish their birth certificates, in order to prove their citizenship is legitimate.
In the ultimate example of weasel rhetoric, Posey says that he "takes Obama's word for it" that Obama is an American citizen. This is similar to the rhetoric employed by Shelby when he walked back his idiocy a few weeks back.
So, someone needs to ask Boehner and Cantor, in a time when the economy is in such peril, with the next presidential election more than three years away, isn't this a CRIMINAL DISTRACTION that will waste the time of the U.S. House of Representatives at a time that they should be focusing like a laser beam on the economy??!!??
I wonder if there will be sober panel discussions on Fixed Noise, to say nothing of the allegedly "in the tank" outlets like MSNBC, CNN, and the like, about how the Republicans are taking their eyes of the ball in this critical time??
Oh, and finally--this guy does not represent a hard-right district. McCain only won the district by a 51-48 margin, and Posey himself was elected by a fairly unimpressive margin (53-42-5) over a candidate that Posey outraised by an 8-to-1 margin.
Can we get a top-flight Democrat in there to throw this son-of-a-gun an anchor while he is going under here?
