George Bush will address the Calgary Chamber of Commerce today.
Former US President, George Bush, quietly slipped into Calgary, Alberta yesterday in an attempt to avoid anticipated protests of his trip to deliver a speech scheduled for later today.
Bush's trip to Canada has turned into a controversial topic in the Canadian blogosphere, fueled by secrecy concerning his arrival, accommodations and the focus of his speech. The Calgary Chamber of Commerce is charging $400 per person to hear him and it is being reported that 1500 tickets have been sold.
Media have been banned from the noon hour luncheon event.
Hundreds of protesters are expected to assemble outside of the venue in what is expected to be a loud 'unwelcome.'
UPDATE:
Police arrested a protester today who attempted to make a 'citizens arrest' of former US President George Bush who was speaking to a group in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The man was arrested for obstructing police officers in the course of their duty.
Bush was speaking at a luncheon sponsored by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Press were excluded from the speech.
At least 300 loud Canadian protesters marched, booed and threw shoes at an effigy of George W. Bush outside the hall. Bush is expected to return to the United States this evening.
