In NCAA college football, folks from the Big12 conference are familiar with the throwing of oranges. That's a reference back to the Big8 days when the conference winner won an automatic bid to the Orange Bowl. Being an Oklahoma Sooners fan, I am very familiar with "raining oranges." It's the same as Big10 and PAC10 fans and their roses.
So, what does that have to do with avocados? Well, I think Eugene Robinson in his March 17 column may have inadvertantly inspired something new for us to "throw."
(hop the avocado for more...)
First, read Eugene Robinson's entertaining March 17 column "A Hand in the Health Debate." This line struck a chord with me:
No one should face financial ruin because of a mishap with a fork and an avocado.
And the skies parted, the light shown down, and heavenly choirs...er, choired, or something. Anyways, inspiration struck. Eugene's avocado health care argument and my history of throwing oranges hinted to a new response to anti-reformers: give them avocados!
Any time anyone, anywhere, takes an anti-healthcare reform stance, send them an avocado.
So, continue Eugene's message "No one should face financial ruin because...of an avocado." Avocado gift boxes, avocado t-shirts, avocado bumper stickers, avocado buttons, etc. Stand up for health care reform and let it rain avocados!
