Earlier today, Republican strategist John Feehery used his TV time to attack the administration, Senator Dodd and Democrats as a whole, for the entire AIG bonus fiasco. When called on it by Andrea Mitchell, he helpfully explained the Republican outrage:
MITCHELL: John, whoa, whoa. Is that really fair? I mean, you know, Geithner, from everything that we can tell, all they basically said was, it's a violation of contract. You take, you know you accuse congressman or senator, but this is at risk of pulling down the whole stimulus if it's challenged in court.
FEEHERY: Sure. You know, Andrea, you know better than I do that this is not a thing about fairness or not. This is a thing about politics, and the fact of the matter is, is when things are going bad, people are looking for scapegoats.
So over the course of the next several days, when you see the Republican's populist outrage, just remember, they aren't interested in a being fair.
