Alright!!! Some people on this site are getting on my nerves. Here is my rant how personal responsibilty has completely escaped America.
I'm pretty sure I'm a liberal. I believe in the environment and a woman's right to choose. I believe in taxes and paying your fair share. I believe in government programs that help people down on their luck. I voted for Obama and so far have been happy with his progress. I believe in universal healthcare and gay marriage. Have I established my credentials yet?
But I also believe in the American dream. You know the one where you work hard and can be anything you want to in America. So far in the last two weeks, I have read the following diaries...
One that tells the Dow to go f)&k itself.
One that has someone who wants their student loans paid off by the government.
One that has someone who wants a refi because they are upside down in their mortgage (but can afford the current mortgage bill.
One that wants to give Medicare to everyone regardless if you are happy with your healthcare or not.
Let me be very clear. These are hard economic times. I know people are getting laid off and are hurting. I know people have huge medical bills. I know that there are people who were scammed by mortgage brokers. I have sympathy for all and I'm willing to use my tax dollars to help you.
What I'm sick of is the whining by everyone else.
401k isn’t bad.
Housing Prices can drop.
Living beyond your means is stupid.
It seems like SAVE has become a four letter word around here.
Hey my 401k has dropped and you know what I can reallocate into a money market. You know that thing that pays interest. And please don't write me and tell me how you don't have that option. EVERY 401K has a fixed income/money market option.
Past performance is not a GUARANTEE of future results. Say it a million times. I'm not asking for a bailout because my 401k has dropped. I also don’t think it's a scam. I think it's a great way to encourage me to save for the future and to live below my means.
I'm sorry that housing has dropped but housing prices were unrealistic. Your house isn't suppose to be a get rich scheme. No one forced you to go to an open house and make an offer on a house way out of your budget. No one forced you to take out a HELO to buy an SUV or a flat screen or whatever. Yes, some people were scammed but others were just plain stupid and GREEDY.
Yes, America is GREEDY. And greed doesn't have a monopoly on either political party.
Personal responsibility has got to come back to America. You know the one where you actually think about your actions. The one where you realize that the stock market is a gamble and that housing prices can go up or down and the one where you are thankful that you have a roof over your head (renting or owning), you have food in your pantry and you have a government who will provide both if you get into trouble.
So yes, go ahead call me a FREEPER. I'm not. I support the bailout. I support universal healthcare. I support my taxes increasing. I don't support the excessive whining and people with their hand out. So annoying. And by the way, I have the same rant for corporations and banks and whoever else who did something stupid and thinks I should bail their sorry little ass out.
Okay done with rant.
