I'm mildly embarrassed to admit that I just read about and watched the 'debate' on The View about Rush Limbaugh's "I want Obama to fail" statements. Elizabeth Hasselbeck compared Rush the people who were opposed to the war in Iraq, saying that vocal anti-war activists wanted the war to fail.
Not one person pointed out that this is patently untrue.
No one wanted the war to fail. We were opposed to the war because we believed that it would fail. And, despite what Hasselbeck says, we were right.
What Rush is saying is not "I think that it will fail" but "I hope that it does fail." In other words, Rush will be disappointed if unemployment falls, if markets rise, if home prices stabilize.
Limbaugh and the Republican party are betting against the American people. They are openly making a wagering that the global economy will continue to collapse, and they are making it clear that they are willing to work towards that outcome in order to win that wager.
