Erin Brockovich. Silkwood. The Insider. Hollywood has created some significant motion pictures revolving around companies that knowingly expose the public to dangerous toxins. And yet, today, there is a company in America that has produced a whole range of products that have shown to increase the risk for a vast array of health problems, including cancer, brain damage, and birth defects, just to name a few. This company has even managed to convince a sitting US President (Bill Clinton) to shill one of their products (rBGH) to the world – a product that is now banned in Canada and the European Union – but not here.
The company is Monsanto. Their product list includes DDT, PCBs, rBGH, and aspartame, all of which they, at one time or another, have claimed to be “completely safe” when their own evidence has shown otherwise. 60 Minutes exposed this story. Google “health effects of …” and fill in one of the products listed above. This is one scary company. And now they’re trying to make genetically engineered food the only food choice available to the world, something that was written about here.
But where is Monstanto’s Karen Silkwood? Or Erin Brockovich? How does this company manage to continue wreaking havoc on the world without anyone saying a word?
Well, today, YOU can be a hero! You can be Monsanto’s Silkwood. You can make your voice heard when the Obama administration considers someone like Michael Taylor, a Monsanto loyalist, to head his new Food Safety Working Group. You can write and e-mail and call and say “NO!” You can tell the Administration that you want the choice to eat non-engineered food. You can tell them to stop subsidizing Monsanto’s path of destruction.
C’mon, admit it. You always wanted to be Julia Roberts. Well, now you can!
