FOX News has led cable news ratings for a while. This is the news outlet that in a sense revolutionized the media by proving that biased journalism sells better than objective journalism. And now, while liberals are in control of all corners of the American government, FOX is thriving more than ever.
I have no problem with bias -- bias can just as easily mean the presence of conviction as it can the absence of perspective. It's a perfectly natural outcome of free speech, which I am unequivocally in favor of. But the number of people that get their news solely from FOX News worries me. And the number of people who actually believe they're "fair and balanced" scares me.
My main concern is that FOX might become a repository for everyone skeptical of Obama's agenda, and many talking heads on FOX are more than likely to feed them with all kinds of venom and vitriol, turning their doubts into anger and hatred that precludes even giving the new administration a chance. Between Glenn Beck's tearful theatrics, Sean Hannity's persistent slandering and the systematic dwelling on only the administration's flaws by every other anchor -- this is cause for concern.
President Obama is thinking collectively about how to move this country forward. His agenda of fixing education, health care and energy will benefit us all. Americans must at the very least give him a chance and not write him off already.
